You are expected to be, always honing your experience and skillset, to develop a complete understanding of all aspects of interior design, FF&E design and materials, latest trends, specifications as well as the production / manufacturing process and using this in the design, specification and delivery of luxury residentials or hotels to an international level.
You are expected to communicate effectively with all staff within KCA, including staff on site as well as Suppliers and Contractors, with an ability to solve problems and find solutions to difficult situations as they arise.
Share in the responsibility, with other Interior Designers, of maintaining KCA’s extensive FF&E Library.
FFE Designers will be expected to demonstrate an ability to think creatively and will participate in initial concept meetings and provide information and make suggestions on availability of suitable FF&E as required.
You must always take the client’s needs and the operator’s requirements into consideration, as a priority, before starting any kind of concept, presentation or documentation. Most importantly, and particularly in hospitality design, the operator’s standards and guidelines must be reviewed, followed and adhered to.
Coordinate and work with Senior Designer(s) in the development of overall design concepts. Prepare schemes and sample boards to include, furniture, fabrics, and sanitary ware
Select and document necessary specifications, schedules and material references; approved colours, finishes, materials required into .Studio, the specifications software program.
Prepare specification sheets for all selected and custom items.
Develop, monitor, track necessary FF&E budgetary information on all projects. Request pricing from suppliers.
Carry out all the above responsibilities and all necessary documentation within the deliverables programme established for the project and always meet project progress scheduled deadlines.
Maintain project records (meeting minutes and files transmitted via email)
Potential List of Post-Contract Typical Tasks
Provide suitable alternatives to KCA specified FF&E items for discontinued or not meeting project schedule or are too expensive for the project (Value Engineering exercise) whilst preserving the design intent.
Respond and clarify to bidders during tender period or to contractor during construction on any Design or FF&E related queries - discrepancies between FF&E codes & drawings, missing FF&E codes/specs, FF&E notes, dimensions, applications description.
Provide a consolidated project control samples ready to be issued to project site team and contractors.
Coordinate & follow up with various suppliers to clarify the 'design intent' & discrepancies between KCA specifications & drawings on items such as carpet, rug, bed throw-bed spread-cushions-curtains-bed hangings design, custom fabrics wallpaper-glass patterns-special finish applications (example: mother of pearl/ precious stones, custom mosaics pattern, accent/ textured paints, silver & gold leafing).
Factory visit to review mock-ups for furniture, lighting, large scale rug & artwork installation, as required.
Provide Mock-up review reports for FF&E or Room Mock-ups if and when requested.
Stone quarry visits to review / select stone slabs as required including dry laying of tiles before installation. Conclusion report on the stone recommendations.
